Way Behind… but that’s okay.

Been a busy week, what with all the sleeping, Vicodin, and, actually, going to work. Wednesday was absolutely exhausting, as it was a return to both work, and a meeting that night regarding the possibility of shooting some direct-to-dvd movies here in Houston (at the same place I intern). No writing was accomplished Wednesday, although I managed to get about half the confrontation scene (aka, the second to last on the one I’ve been concentrating on thus far for the month) done Thursday, despite running around all over town that day. Today I napped after work, and after a hillarious 200th episode of SG-1, and a rather mediocre Atlantis episode, I was inspired, and started off again. I have finally managed to get that scene finished now (at seven pages, that’s a long scene!)

Now all I have to do is finish the story off (only one more scene that I really can think of), and send it off to Gayle for another round of beta’ing. I think I’ll leave Linda alone this time around as this one’s even longer than the bounty hunter fic, poor girl. I’ll do some real editing on it when August ends, and force myself to concentrate on writing for the rest of the month, maybe see if I can pull off a miracle and reach 30,000 by the end of the month.

Stupid teeth and early laziness have put me way behind. As I write this I’m at 11,600 words. Good news is that Monday I finish off the rest of my antibiotics, and hopefully by next Friday I’ll be eating solid foods again. So hopefully that means I can focus on writing instead of recovery at that point. After I finish this story (hopefully tomorrow), I’ve got two stories I can write on, and it’s hard to decide which to work on. I might alternate between the two, but focusing on just this one has forced me to finish it off (which is good!)

I’d really like to finish off last November’s WriMo before this November hits, but that might be a tall order, since the story gets more and more complicated (and thus longer) as time goes by. I will prevail though! I have had some ideas to try and work around the little corner and rut I had written myself into (and bring some much needed action back into the McKay/Sheppard storyline). I’m also tempted to start writing on the modern-day part of the story, just so I can have an idea on what’s going on each place.
I also could work on the POV story I started (which would actually eventually result in a series, sort of like my Bonanza POV series), I guess it depends on what mood strikes me when I finish. Either one has plenty of story left in it to take me to my goal for the month.

With that thought, I’ve decided to sign off, until next time!

Oh that’s write, I was going to include an excerpt. Still haven’t fixed the coding so it’s got that strange yellow color (okay, I lie, it’s peach) on the indents… ah well. I’ll fix it eventually.

A right pain in the–jaw

Well, had my surgery on Saturday, so officially I have a huge hole in my jaw, and I’m on drugs. I managed to get a little writing done today? Yesterday? Problem is I’ve been sleeping so much I’m not sure when I did it. Anyhoo, I’m almost at 8000, which, considering, is pretty good. I’m hoping to catch up tomorrow maybe (you’d think I’d be able to concentrate on it today, despite sleeping on and off for the whole day), but I wound up instead tryin to illustrate a scene from it, with all the frustrations thereof. Anyway, not sure if I’ll be making it to my internship tomorrow, but I should probably head off to sleep now so I can get in enough sleep to try.

The right side of my jaw is swollen up to comical proportions, so there’s a chance they’ll just send me home even if I do come in. (I just feel like I should, since I had ample time to tell them about this, even though I anticipated faring a lot better than I currently am.) So yeah, heading off to sleep to try and attempt some work tomorrow.

(I haven’t figured out if sitting at the computer for extended periods of time yesterday and today are what caused my bouts of nausea, but I’m hoping not, since I basically sit at a computer there. Must be better by Tuesday though, since I have an interview with Container Store for part time work)

The joys of dental surgery :P

Testing out the Random Quote

Random headers, now random quotes.

McKay: 95% of deadly is still deadly!

Exquisita!

Now if I could only get it to appear up in the header…

“Bad pants!”

I just realized today all of my word counts weren’t appearing. What’s up wit’ dat? Probably something else for me to research, and thus distract myself with. I hope to eventually get an image mood list like I’ve got on GJ, and the post icons. But I completely and totally digress.

See! See! See! We’re no longer pirates ladies and gentlemen, that’s right, we’ve officially arrived in the Pegasus Galaxy. And about time too, I was starting to feel a little disgruntled floating outside of Atlantis in a big wooden boat. Right now we have Rodney McKay’s smug mug staring at us, but I’m hoping to eventually start a collection of banners, that once I figure out the coding, will rotate around and around and around, so each time you visit you can stare at something else. (It would also allow me to have a less “fandom” themed skin, and something more generic. Either or though)
And while I was a busy beaver Saturday, yesterday was also very successful (part in thanks to the internet going out), and I was able to finish off three scenes, and now I am just 500 words shy of 6000, meaning by the end of the day, if I write 1500 more, I could very well catch up. :o The excitement, the anticipation,it KILLS! So in celebration of (almost) catching up, I’ve decided to share a tiny excerpt of what I’ve been working on.

(It has been cut for those of you who really don’t care about it, but for some bizarre reason are reading my writing journal for some preverse kicks).

I’m starting to feel the need to illustrate out scenes for when things are broken up into chapters. For whatever chapter this snippet appears in, we’d see the “Risky Business” shot ala Sheppard, which cracked me up far too much last night. I think it was sleep deprivation.

Anyway, back to the writing. I have to take Beckett hostage now and move things along. Oh yes, not sure if it was apparent, in said snippet, but the Major is running around Atlantis hallways in his skivvies. I blame my beta-reader Gayle, for making the innocent suggestion that the plantling catch a ride on John’s pants. I however can not blame her for my mind interpreting that as an excuse to make a pair of pants attack someone. I guess I really am a freak.

Day 5

Day five into the August WriMo and I’m starting to get back on track. This morning with a cup of coffee (something I hadn’t started drinking until this week :P ) I started writing, and had to take a break around lunch to make food and got distracted reading about Nietzsche (who I stole a title or two from for last November’s WriMo). By the way, I apparently can’t cook skewers in the oven. How sad is that? I can whip up a stir fry to satisfy the worst Asian hater, and bake the best cookies known to man… but I can’t cook simple chicken skewers? What’s wrong with me?

I’m getting off topic. That’s what’s wrong.

Anyhoo, I took a break in the afternoon after talking with Patti (aka AL) about some things, and resumed sometime after dinner. Me and Sneddy had two write-offs, which really helped me focus on writing the words themselves. I’m proud to say that I’m almost caught up with my word goal for the month (fairly easy to keep track of at 30,000, at 1000 a day). I have to catch up and surpass for this weekend though since I’ve got dental surgery scheduled for Saturday, and I honestly don’t know if I’ll be better buy Sunday, Monday, etc, to resume writing.

(note a lapse of about five to ten minutes between writing on this blog)

This is due to the insistence of Little Sister that there was a “bug” that our oldest/biggest dog Rowdy needed to “get”. I have now been completely distracted from the point of what I was going to say, but let us see if I can remember it.

Oh yes, uber drama today, thankfully though I was more or less on the sidelines of it. Not that it was good for the people in the thick of it… but… nevermind. :P

Anyway, I’ve managed to get my wordcount up, hopefully to a point that I can catch up with 6000 tomorrow. I managed to get past a major hurdle in the story I’m trying to finish up that I’d been hung up on for a while. Now I can move on to more fun things (like possessed pairs of pants attacking Air Force Majors… among other things), and hopefully finish it up. When/if I get there (some days I believe this thing will take the whole 30K to get finished), I’ve got two other options to finish out the word goal on. One is last November’s WriMo (poor, abandoned 65-page WriMo), and the other one is a POV story, that’s also SGA.

You know, I started out thinking I was going to be working on one of my originals, but somehow I got dragged back into these stories. That’s okay though, I really want to finish them.

Me and Sneddy also discussed combining our literary efforts to possibly make great stories, combining the best of Adam and Candy… or maybe we’ll flop. But it was fun to think about.

By the way DD… the link didn’t work :(

Nada

Day 3 was not as productive as I wanted. I got like… fifty words? Not so good. I blame drama (and unexepected visits to the airport… that in my mind were supposed to happen TOMORROW). Great leader huh? :P

Okay, that means tomorrow I definitely have to write my butt off. I’ve got 2500 words on the menu to catch up. Hopefully interning won’t be too tiring, and I won’t encounter unexpected drama.

In happier news, I was looking at pics today to start assembling a new banner and start out the new SGA-based theme. Fun fun fun!

A first post

Filed under: Writer's Rants, WriMo — Grey @ 11:39 pm

All right, figure I ought to make a real quick entry on the progress I’ve made thus far this month. Those reading need to enjoy Will Turner’s place up top, because since I’m no longer writing along a piratey theme, I’ll be changing that out soon enough (and after ALL that hard work to get this to look like a ship) to reflect what I’m writing this month.

Yesterday I was a good little writer, and I managed to get a little bit more than my goal. Today was not so good, mostly because I’ve been kidnapped by family members and nameless people kept talking to me in chat. ;)

So I’ve created a little field for the daily word count, but not the monthly, so I’ll need to add one of those tomorrow. As it’s past 11:30 here now, I’ve decided I’ll retire for the night, and write an extra 500 words tomorrow (since I won’t be having to work and hopefully not be kidnapped TOO many times.) I also hope I can work on a new theme, because that would be fun ;)

So there, I haf made my first post, hurrah! And DD, if you want me to link your journal, just give it to me, and I’ll add it to the side there.
